I remember Dave very well.  We were good friends from South School through high school.  He was a very good person.  Easy going, great sense of humor and someone we will miss.  Even though I hadn't seen him in many, many years, the memories are still strong.

Dave was a really nice person.  I lived across the street from  "Basner" and he was a best friend.  We shared a love of baseball.  During junior high at South , a group would meet at his home every morning and walk to school. Terry Hackett, Ken Feit were our companions.   Wasn't  life simple then?  Thanks Dave for your friendship.

David Dale Basner

October 16th, 1946 - December 17th, 2022

Age: 76 years

David “Dave” Dale Basner of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Symphony – Tri-Cities. He was 76 years old. David Dale Basner was born on October 16, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Alex D. and Mary (Nothelfer) Basner. He was a 1964 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, Dave proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in Korea during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he began working as a wholesale lumber distributor with U.S. Plywood. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Kerrie J. (Mason) Blackney on September 6, 1969; their union created a beautiful daughter, Erin Ann. Throughout his life, he worked as a wholesale lumber distributor for various companies, retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service with Jim White Lumber Sales. The role of his lifetime was to be a loving father and grandfather. As a young man, Dave, both played baseball as well as coached for the Saginaw City Little League. He was a longtime member of the Saginaw Country Club, enjoyed reading, and spending time with his cherished dog, Sid. His little piece of heaven was spending time on the golf course and cheering for the Detroit Tigers. He will forever be remembered for his amazing ability to tell stories, his loyal, caring, and compassionate spirit, and for truly living an amazing life filled with love for his family.

Surviving are a daughter, Erin Ann (Todd R.) Shappee of Saginaw; a granddaughter, Madelyn Shappee of Saginaw; sister, Marlene Brown of Saginaw; a former spouse, Kerrie J. Blackney; his partner and companion of 11 years, Cynthia Pace of New Jersey; many treasured nieces and nephews, three of which were near and dear to his heart: Tony Horonzy of Saginaw, Kelly Horonzy of Royal Oak, and Audra Belongia of Freeland.  Also surviving are many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: twins, Alexis Lou Horonzy and Karen Sue (Vern) Moll and Lila (Tom) Dubay.

Honoring Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of American Legion Post #22. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to a veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice.
