Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Age 73 years. The daughter of the late Alexander and Emilie (Miller) Krenz, Nancy was born on May 1, 1946 in Saginaw, MI. She married Lupe Leal on January 14, 1967. He survives her.
Nancy grew up in Saginaw, MI the youngest of four children. After graduating Arthur Hill High School, she went on to study English at Eastern Michigan Univ. Working at a pickle factory one hot summer day, she met the love of her life, Lupe, after demanding a drink of his Coke. Her passions in life revolved around her family and helping others. She was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church where she frequently volunteered, and was known for her handmade noodles, German grebel and kuchen. Nancy loved food. Cooking it, planning it, reading about it, and eating it. Nothing made her happier than seeing her family and friends delighting in a home-cooked meal. She also was a lover of the outdoors, spending time in nature watching and feeding birds and squirrels, and enjoyed campfires with her family around northern Michigan. Food and outdoors combined well in her love of gardening. If you knew Nancy, you knew her direct style as she never left you guessing, unless of course you sat down with her at a card game. For those of us who were fortunate to have known her, we are better because of it. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides her husband Lupe are two children, Barbara Leal, Saginaw; Paul (Doris) Leal, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Leslie (Colin) Heap, Sarah Varney, Max Leal and Alec Leal; a great-granddaughter, Ariel Leal; a sister, Carol Beyersdorf; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Ritter Krenz and Sharon Gulvas Krenz; many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald Krenz and Harold “Jim” Krenz; her brother-in-law, Ralph Beyersdorf.
Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockway. Pastor Sue Hand will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Leal’s wishes cremation will follow. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
