Henry Balzer Jr.
Nov 28, 1945 - Oct 8, 2020Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper campus. Age 74 years. Son of the late Henry and Lillian (Turner) Balzer Sr., Henry was born November 28, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post #439. He married Carolyn Taylor, his loving wife of 52 years on August 17, 1968. She survives him. Henry was employed at Grey Iron Foundry retiring in 1996 after25 years of service. He was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church and the Eagles. Henry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, singing, cooking, his cars and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife Carolyn are two daughters, Laura and Matthew McKinstry, Saginaw; Melissa and Jason Caster, Hudsonville, Michigan; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Taylor McKinstry; four sisters, Shirley Pinet, Bridgeport; Janice and Woody Swan, Freeland; Donna and John Liss, Saginaw; Kathy and Gary Schultheiss, Saginaw; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ellen Taylor, Ginger Taylor, Dale and Lynn Taylor, Laurie and Mike Guttowsky; special friends, Roger and Sandy Shaver many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Henry was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Modlin; a nephew, Jeffrey Liss; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Mickey Pinet, Ron Modlin, Gary Taylor, Betty and Ken Burgess.
Honoring Mr. Balzer’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2020 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Robert Schmidt and Nancy Scott will officiate with Military Service conducted by American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. In accordance with State mandate ordinances, the limitations of number gathered, mask wearing and social distancing will be observed. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Resurrection Lutheran Church or American Legion Post #439.
